New evening yoga class for S11 Sheffield

By | Blog | No Comments

Namaste folks!

I’m back from my honeymoon – thanks so much for the warm wishes, tweets, notes, cards and gifts from my fellow yogis and pilates peeps, you are so generous and kind! We had a wonderful time :)

I’m starting a new early evening class from next Thursday (June 4th 2015) in the Hunter’s Bar area of Sheffield (S11). If you are interested in coming along please do so and you can email me with any questions at [email protected] – I would also really appreciate it if you can help spread the word about this new class as I am still relatively new to Sheffield!

Here are the details:

Slow flowing vinyasa hatha yoga

Thursday evenings 6.45-7.45pm (starting from 4th June 2015)

at the Scout Hut

Botanical Road

S11 8RP

links to a map: http://59thsheffield.org.uk/group/the-scout-hall

Drop in price: £6.50/£5.50 students & concessions (i.e. jobseekers, over 60’s)with the option to purchase a 10 class pass* for £55/50 students

*This is valid from the date purchased for the next 3 months to use for either the Thursday morning 9-10am class at Eten Cafe or the 6.45-7.45pm Thursday class at the Scout Hut. You can buy these at the class from me and can pay in cash or by cheque.

The Scout Hall is easy to reach as there are lots of buses running along Ecclesall Road. There is also metered parking available on Ecclesall Road from 6.30pm. Botanical Road is very close to Hunter’s Bar roundabout – Botanical Road itself is only available for residents with permits to park their cars.

About this class:

This class is suitable for those just starting out as well as those experienced in yoga who are looking for a practice of moderate intensity – my aim is to give you a nicely balanced physical practice which will both improve your strength, poise and flexibility, but also give time and space for attention to the breath (pranayama), and will include a short relaxation at the end of the session so that you leave feeling relaxed and calm. Hatha is a sanskrit word that encompasses all physical yoga but in the west is taken to mean a gentler form of yoga where poses are taught with focus on alignment and safety, and adaptations are given where possible for those new or with any injuries or ailments (the belief being yoga is for all!) Vinyasa means ‘sequence’ – so I will teach you individual poses which slowly flow through sequences and as the group gets more familiar with these sequences we can experiment with different rhythms and pace of flow – both of which offer great benefits. I will throw in different poses and variety in each class so your body doesn’t suffer from repetitive strain and you always have fun new challenges as well as the chance to deepen your awareness of the more foundational poses each week.

Happy Easter – no classes Easter Monday

By | Blog | No Comments

Happy Easter :)

Hope you are all having a lovely long weekend. I took a wander around the Botanical Gardens today and it’s so nice to see the sunshine breaking out finally and so many flowers bursting into life! Just a reminder that I am not running any classes tomorrow on Easter Monday, but otherwise classes are on as usual (including this Thursday’s morning yoga classes at Eten Cafe Sheffield).

Also if you are looking for a healthy and relaxing weekend away, do check out the details for the summer yoga retreat at Fawcett Mill in Penrith – full details over on the events page of this website  – we are now over halfway booked up on this weekend and all of our retreats generally sell out a month or so in advance, but there are places still available right now. Personally July is my favourite time of the year to visit Fawcett Mill as the garden is in full bloom and if it’s great weather like last year we might be lucky enough to practice yoga outside or have a paddle in the Mill’s own waterfall.

Hope to see you at a class soon,

Thursday 29th January Eten Yoga Cancelled This Week

By | Blog | No Comments

I hate having to cancel classes. But trudging around in the snow outside I just can’t tell if I can get my car safely down the hill and later back up the hill especially if the snow is continuing all day. I also don’t want anybody else to have a crash or an accident needlessly, so today we will have to namastay in bed.

Fingers crossed this wintry snow will soon pass and we can get back to normal next week!

See you next week,

Leonie

new year, new class times

By | Blog | No Comments

Dear fellow yogis, yoginis and pilates folk,

I don’t know about you but 2014 has been pretty significant for me; moving house, relocating and getting engaged!

So in part due to the above and partly also due to some major building work going on at Cavendish School Didsbury, from January 5th there will be some significant changes to the Manchester class times. The Fallowfield Pilates class will run on Mondays at 12-1pm, The Cavendish Didsbury Pilates class will be scheduled an hour earlier at 6-7pm, followed by Yoga at the same venue from 7.30-8.45pm. This will replace the Tuesday evening class – but there will still be Yoga if you can only make Tuesdays, with Tara at the same time.

Last classes in Manchester before I stop for Christmas break are on Monday 15th December. Last classes for Sheffield will be on Thursday 18th December.

I’m looking forward to teaching you all in 2015, and particularly excited about teaching at Cranage Hall with Julia on our Yoga & Spa Detox weekend in January. There are also the wonderful and ever-popular Lakes retreats that Tara and I organise three times a year – these are booking up so do please get in touch if you are interested in joining us. There will be other Yoga and Pilates events going on next year so do stay in touch via my website, facebook or twitter.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and thanks so much for all your support, kindness and inspiration this year!

Namaste

Leonie

New morning Yoga Class coming up in Sheffield!

By | Blog | No Comments

My early morning yoga class at the lovely Eten Cafe in Sheffield City Centre is already full so I’m looking to start a new class at the cafe on Thursdays 9-10am. It will cost £6 per class with a special discount of £5 for students. The upstairs room in the cafe is a very pleasant space for practicing yoga and if you are not in a rush, why not stay for a coffee or a smoothie afterwards. I have mats you can borrow and we can fit a maximum of 14 people in the room so we will keep it small and friendly. As soon as I have a handful of folk interested we can start! And as Autumn is upon us, it’s a great time to start a healthy new routine.

So if you would like to come along please get in touch and reserve your space: [email protected] or find me on facebook/ twitter @LeoniesYoga.

Pilates & Yoga Workshop for upper back, shoulders & neck 23rd August 2014

By | Events | No Comments

10-12.30pm at Fallowfield Union Chapel, M14 6EQ

Join me for a morning of pilates and yoga focusing on the upper back, shoulders and neck. This is an area of the body that can easily get very tight and creaky due to prolonged sitting, driving and stress.

We will work on both strength and flexibility using both exercises from Joseph Pilates and yoga asanas and we’ll even fit in a short herbal tea break halfway through (biscuits too!). Your whole body will get a workout but with this special emphasis on the upper body you should hopefully leave the room walking taller and feeling a new sense of space between shoulders and ears!

For this workshop it is helpful if you have some experience either of pilates or yoga.

£15 per person, £14 for concessions – pay on the day but please reserve your place first with me as spaces are limited.

[email protected] or find me on facebook or twitter (leoniesyoga), or talk to me after class!
