Rest and Restore Yoga and Mindfulness Workshop

With Leonie and Jane Mitchell of Mind Body Feeling.
10.30-1.30pm, £30

Venue: Sharrow Community Forum
Old Junior School, Southview Road
Sheffield, S7 1DB

We scheduled our Rest and Restore workshop with special consideration to the time of year. The run up to Christmas is often a busy, stressful time when festive preparations can collide with work deadlines and social events. For many, especially those with small children, it’s a source of great excitement, anticipation and enjoyment. However, Christmas can be a loaded word for some people, who may have lost loved ones or who may be spending the holiday alone. With so many different emotions building alongside financial pressures and expectations, no wonder December may leave us feeling rather fraught.

Yoga and mindfulness can bring us back to sense of calm and peace. As we spend more time in this relaxed state, we will become more resilient to stress, gain perspective and a sense of connection between ourselves and others. The yoga practice will be gentle, focusing on yin and restorative postures, using breath awareness to bring us to a quieter state and ending with a blissful, deep relaxation.

Stretching your Imagination: Yoga and Creative Writing workshops

Saturday 18th November
At One Space, Union St, Sheffield S1 2JR

10.30-15.30 £46

Whether you’re a creative writer whose work might benefit from a mindful focus, or an experienced yogi who has always been curious about their creative potential (or, of course, someone somewhere in between) these workshops are ideal for exploring new ideas and techniques.

Workshop One: The Senses

In this workshop we’ll be focusing on the senses. As writers we will be exploring how the use of our senses can deepen our experience of reading and how we can use this to create atmosphere in our own writing.

The yoga will help to free up the body and mind in order to write. We will use different ways to physically explore the senses during our yoga practice, giving us plenty of creative inspiration to draw upon and at the end of the workshop we will finish with a lovely relaxation. Tea and biscuits will be provided.

Hi there,

During my break, my other yoga and pilates classes at Instinctive Health, Katie Bell Pilates, Jeni Ferguson Pilates and Virgin Active will be covered so you can still book into those!

That’s it for now, looking forward to seeing you all soon!

New yoga class coming to Union St in the new year!

By | Blog | No Comments

Watch out for another After Work yoga class coming to Union St on Thursdays in January! This new Thursday class will take place in Union St’s One Space on the 1st floor, 5.30-6.30pm. Like the Tuesday class, it will be another chance to refresh the mind and body after a busy day with breath based movements ending with a short but lovely relaxation. Beginners are always welcome. Would you be interested in coming? If so, please get in touch: [email protected]

Unfortunately this means that I will be no longer teaching at the Botanical Road Scout Hut after Christmas, and my last class at the Scout Hut will be Thursday 15th December. I do hope some of you who regularly came to that class can make it to Union St or if the time is too early for you, perhaps come along to pilates at High Storrs School on Mondays or try an Instinctive Health Restorative yoga class on Wednesdays.

My community yoga and pilates classes will stop for Christmas hols with last class being the Scout Hut on 15th December. However I will continue to teach at the Jeni Ferguson Pilates Studio and Virgin Active the following week – if you come to those venues please check with the individual studios for more details of which classes will be running over the festive period.

I’m afraid there will be a slight price increase of 50p per class to £6 (concessions)/7 for my drop in classes from January and 10 class passes will cost £55/60, which works out at just £5.50(concessions)/£6 per class with a pass. Hopefully you will still feel the prices and the passes in particular offer good value for money.

I am looking forward to our yoga Christmas meal at Ban Thai on Tuesday 13th December at 7pm! And finally, I am putting together with Mindfulness teacher Jane Mitchell a soothing day of Yoga and Mindfulness which will be set for a Saturday in the new year; more details to follow soon!

Thanks for reading,

Leonie

Dates for your diary

Hi there,

I had a lovely time last weekend in the Lake District, teaching yoga with my friend Tara to a warm and friendly bunch of people! We worked on some really interesting themes during our yoga sessions and filled our plates with lots of rainbow colours with homemade vegetarian dishes such as stuffed peppers and mexican street salad! This will be our last Lakes retreat for a while as Tara is now preparing to welcome a new addition to her family – I wish her lots of love and luck! We will hopefully be back offering these wonderful yoga retreats again before long.

In the meantime, Julia and I are scheduling in another couple of one-night stays at Cranage Hall. We are provisionally looking at the weekend of August 20th 2016 and another date in March 2017. I will post up more details as soon as this is confirmed, but the broad info should be the same as the previous Cranage Hall yoga weekends, which are detailed on my Events page. Do get in touch if you are interested in joining us. [email protected]

I’m off myself on holiday soon (yay, sun!) and this means a few of my regular Sheffield classes won’t be on for a week or so. I’m away June 2-9th, however returning in the day on that Thursday, meaning I should be able to teach yoga that evening at the Scout Hut on Botanical Road, Hunter’s Bar.

So, this week all classes are on as usual. Next week, it’s Spring Bank Holiday Monday (May 30th) so no Pilates. I’ll teach Union Street next Tuesday 31st at 5.30pm and there will be teachers covering my classes on both Wednesday 1st and 8th June at Instinctive Health. No Thursday classes on (June 2nd) and there will be a cover instructor taking my pilates class at Virgin Active on 5th June. The following week, there won’t be any classes until I’m back later in the day on Thursday 9th for the evening yoga.

See you soon,

Leonie

Saturday May 14th – Core Yoga and Pilates Workshop

10-12.30pm
Instinctive Health,
Unit 13 Yoga Studio
Neepsend Triangle Business Centre,
1 Burton Road, S3 8BW
£20 pre-book or £22.50 drop in
To reserve your space, visit instinctivehealth.co.uk/workshops/

This workshop will examine the importance of engaging and using the core muscles in yoga postures. The core muscles are essential for maintaining a healthy spine and posture. They give us inner strength, allowing us to hold arm balances and strength poses for longer, giving us a renewed sense of confidence and control. We will be using some pilates exercises to strengthen the deep abdominals (mula bandha and uddiyana bandha) and using some balancing yoga postures to help us improve our inner steadiness. The small pilates ball will also come into play! Mindfulness of breath will bring about an inner stillness, allowing this focus on our centre to reconnect body, mind and spirit. There will be a tea break mid way through this workshop and time to chat and relax in friendly surroundings. We will round off the workshop with some lovely restorative stretches.

Saturday 18th June – Yoga for the Spine – Me-time for Mums

10-12.30pm
Instinctive Health,
Unit 13 Yoga Studio
Neepsend Triangle Business Centre,
1 Burton Road, S3 8BW
£20 pre-book or £22.50 drop in
To reserve your space, visit instinctivehealth.co.uk/workshops/

Picking up toddlers, not having time to exercise as much as you want to, fatigue and changes in the body after pregnancy can all take their toll on your back. Learn how to gently release tension and reduce aches and pains in the spine. This workshop will focus on both upper back and lower back releases, exploring healthy movement for the spine. The asana workshop will be split into two parts, with a tea break inbetween, and rounded off with time to still the mind, focus on breath awareness and enjoy a wonderful relaxation.

Saturday 2nd July – Gratitude Workshop

10-1pm
Instinctive Health,
Unit 13 Yoga Studio
Neepsend Triangle Business Centre,
1 Burton Road, S3 8BW
£30 pre-book or £32.50 drop in
To reserve your space, visit instinctivehealth.co.uk/workshops/

This yoga workshop puts the emphasis on gratitude being another way for expressing our intrinsic interconnectedness with the rest of the universe. The first part of the workshop will be a physical asana session with poses that can unleash feelings of joyfulness, creativity, love and compassion. As we move, we will contemplate the chakras, the energy points that according to yogic philosophy run along the spine. Mindfulness and meditation will pave the way for us to a creative exercise – filling and decorating our own Gratitude Jar. Tea, biscuits and smiles will fuel our inspiration. We will finish the workshop with a relaxation including time for a sankalpa, or personal affirmation to leave us feeling great.

This three hour workshop includes your own take home Gratitude Jar!
